What MTG Card Search is

MTG Card Search is a free, fast way to look up Magic: The Gathering cards. You can search by card name and narrow the results by mana color, card type and set, then sort the list by several fields at once. Cards you want to keep track of can be saved to a favorites list.

The site was built for players who want to answer practical questions quickly: which red instants are in a particular set, what does a card cost to cast, or which cards are worth adding to a deck. It is deliberately simple. There is no account to create and nothing to install.

How it works

Card data comes from the public magicthegathering.io database. When you search, the site asks that database for matching cards and shows the name, set, type line, mana value and color identity, along with artwork and rules text in the card detail view.

Your favorites are stored in your own browser using local storage. We do not keep a copy on a server, which also means they will not follow you to another browser or device.

• Open any card to see its full details, artwork and rules text.
• Save favorites and revisit them on the Favorites page.

Alongside the search tool we publish short guides that explain the game in plain language: how to get the most out of the search filters, what the five colors of Magic stand for, how card types and timing work, and how the main play formats differ. They are written to be read in a few minutes and are a good starting point if you have just picked up the game.
